White man "convicted" of murder by media before trial

DailyKenn.com — 23-year-old Diamond Steen was fatally shot after allegedly shoplifting at an auto parts store.

Charged with murder was Carl Kemppainen, 39, an employee at O’Reilly Auto Parts in Kansas City.

Kemppainen allegedly shot Steen during a physical engagement stemming from shoplifting.

Steen's aunt Sawnya Helm complained, “If you would’ve followed the rules, Diamond would still be here. Regardless of the matter, he would still be here,” kctv5.com reports.

Helm seemed to believe that Kemppainen wasn't following a rule when Steen was shot. Then, again, maybe she was irked by Steen violating a rule that prohibits shoplifting.

Nydja Hood, a writer for kctv5.com, claimed, "23-year-old Diamond Steen was murdered at the hands of 39-year-old O’Reilly Auto Parts employee Carl Kemppainen," before Kemppainen was tried or convicted of murder. Apparently the rule about 'innocent until proven guilty' doesn't apply in Kansas City's urban jungle.
