Malone was allegedly shot during a traffic stop outside a Dollar General store by Powell who fled the scene.
Malone, a dedicated law enforcement officer, had served in various agencies and was described as "larger than life" by Sheriff Mitchell Mixon.
He leaves behind a wife and three daughters. The community mourns Malone's loss, remembering him as a committed officer and family man.
The Mississippi Bureau of Investigation is leading the investigation.
