Overeth Riascos Barahona, 40, was arrested.
Barahona was charged with murder following a police chase that ended in the fatal crash involving Aponte, a City of Sugar Land employee.
Sugar Land police reported that Missouri City police were pursuing Barahona and two other individuals following a burglary call.
Barahona's Toyota Highlander crashed during the pursuit with a City of Sugar Land truck driven by Joseph Aponte, 56, who tragically died at the scene. All three occupants of the Highlander were transported to a local hospital for treatment.
The other two individuals in the Highlander were arrested and charged with burglary by Missouri City police.
Additionally, U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) placed a detainer on Barahona due to his immigration status. Sugar Land police noted that Barahona has a lengthy criminal record.
