DailyKenn.com —  Former President Donald Trump has pledged to prioritize the release of individuals detained in connection with the January 6 Capitol riot as one of his first actions if he is re-elected. Referring to these detainees as "hostages," Trump made the commitment in a post on the Truth Social platform, stating that granting them freedom would be among his administration's top priorities.

In his post, Trump emphasized his intention to secure the release of the January 6 prisoners alongside other policy objectives, including border security and energy initiatives. This statement marks the first time Trump explicitly declared freeing the detainees as a Day One priority, having previously indicated plans to pardon a significant portion of them.

Responding to Trump's remarks, a spokesperson for President Joe Biden's campaign, Sarafina Chitika, condemned Trump's stance, characterizing it as an endorsement of political violence. Chitika emphasized the importance of protecting democracy and preventing Trump from returning to the Oval Office.

According to NBC News, nearly 500 individuals have been sentenced to incarceration for their involvement in the January 6 riot, with prosecutors securing over 950 convictions and charging more than 1,350 individuals in connection with the attack.
