Trynt Dexter Seals, 32, faces expanded felony charges in Bartholomew County, Indiana, including child molestation, criminal confinement, and sexual misconduct with a minor. Prosecutors added the new counts nearly three years after the case began with a single sexual misconduct charge following his arrest.

Columbus, Indiana, where the arrest was made, is only about 2.5% black, meaning the girl was likely white.

A Bartholomew County case that began nearly three years ago has returned to court with significantly expanded allegations, adding new charges and reshaping the legal scope of the prosecution.

Trynt Dexter Seals, 32, was charged last week in Bartholomew County, Indiana, with felony child molestation, criminal confinement, and sexual misconduct with a minor. The updated charges mark a notable shift from the case’s original filing, which initially included only sexual misconduct allegations when Seals was first accused and arrested.

Court records indicate the case has remained active since the initial arrest, but the most recent filing broadens the legal focus to include multiple alleged offenses tied to the same overall set of circumstances. Prosecutors have not publicly detailed what prompted the additional charges at this stage of the proceedings.

In Indiana, felony child molestation charges typically involve allegations of sexual contact with a minor under circumstances that meet specific statutory thresholds. Criminal confinement charges generally relate to accusations that a person unlawfully restricted another individual’s freedom of movement. Sexual misconduct with a minor is a separate offense that addresses sexual conduct involving an underage victim under state law. Each charge carries its own potential penalties and evidentiary requirements if the case proceeds to trial.

The case’s timeline stretches back nearly three years, beginning with Seals’ initial arrest and the filing of a single charge. Since then, the matter has moved through the court system, culminating in last week’s updated charging decision in Bartholomew County court.

Seals remains a defendant in the ongoing case, and court proceedings are expected to continue as the case moves through pretrial stages. No trial date has been announced, and additional filings or hearings may further define the scope of the prosecution as it develops.

As with all criminal cases, the charges represent formal allegations. Seals is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty in a court of law.

Bartholomew County prosecutors will continue presenting evidence as the case advances, while defense counsel will have the opportunity to respond to the updated charges and challenge the state’s claims through the judicial process.
