The Valdosta Police Department has reported two arrests in connection to a fatal shooting that occurred on New Year's Day. The incident took place at Circle K on Northside Drive, where Kyle Thomas Walker, aged 31, was discovered with a gunshot wound to the head and later pronounced dead.
According to the Valdosta Police Department (VPD), officers responded to the scene just before 8:30 p.m. on January 1, following a citizen's call to 911 reporting the shooting. VPD Detectives and Crime Scene Personnel conducted an investigation, and evidence collected at the scene identified Sharod Rasheed Tucker, aged 19, and Keyuntay Washington, aged 17, as suspects in the shooting.
On January 2, at 5:00 p.m., detectives received information that Tucker and Washington were at a residence in the 1600 block of Lexington Circle. Detectives arrived at the residence, where Tucker attempted to flee and was apprehended after a short foot pursuit. During the pursuit, detectives observed Tucker drop a bag containing a stolen firearm.
Washington was taken into custody without incident inside the home. A subsequent search warrant executed at the residence revealed property belonging to the victim. The suspects, Washington and Tucker, were transported to Lowndes County Jail.
Charges filed against them include felony murder, armed robbery, aggravated assault, and possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony. Tucker is facing additional charges, including possession of stolen property firearm, possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, obstruction of an officer, and possession of marijuana.
The case remains under investigation, and further charges are pending. Chief Leslie Manahan praised the department's coordinated efforts, emphasizing it as an "incredible team effort" from Crime Scene Personnel to detectives and patrol officers working together to swiftly and safely apprehend the suspects.
