DailyKenn.com — Authorities have confirmed the discovery of human remains, including a head and hands, at a recently sold home in Colorado. The Mesa County Sheriff’s Office, responding to a suspicious incident on January 12 in the 2900 block of Pinyon Avenue, revealed that the newly purchased property was being cleaned when potential human remains were found.

In an updated release to PEOPLE, the sheriff's office now characterizes the case as a homicide following an autopsy by the Mesa County Coroner’s Office. The human remains, a head, and hands, were confirmed to be present at the address on Pinyon Avenue.

Despite limited information due to ongoing testing, authorities emphasized their commitment to a thorough investigation. They reassured the community, stating that this is believed to be an isolated incident, with no ongoing threat.

Video footage from the scene, as reported by CBS affiliate KCNC, showed investigators in Hazmat-like suits. A neighbor, Sam Troester, recounted that the previous residents had moved out in the morning, and the new owners arrived later to clean up. Troester mentioned that the new owners had posted online about selling items left behind, including a deep freezer. Disturbingly, individuals who picked up the freezer reportedly discovered a human head inside.

The Mesa County Sheriff’s Office has urged the public to come forward with any information related to the case.

 

When authorities responded to Liren Chen's residence in Santa Clara, Calif., they reportedly found the Google software engineer with a swollen hand and covered in blood. The police had been called for a welfare check after a friend couldn't reach Chen. Despite unanswered calls and door knocks, the friend observed Chen in a motionless state on his knees with hands in the air when peering through a window.

Upon entering the home, authorities noted Chen's severely swollen and purple right hand. Tragically, they discovered his deceased wife in the residence, showing signs of blunt force trauma to her head. Chen, allegedly with blood on his clothing, legs, arms, and hands, as well as scratches on his arm, was arrested and charged with murder. He is currently hospitalized.

Chen's wife, identified as Xuanyi Yu by sources like The San Francisco Standard, Fox News, and the Hindustan Times, was a Software Engineer at Google. Her LinkedIn profile, now memorialized, indicated two years and eight months of service at Google, along with degrees from Tsinghua University and UC San Diego.

Chen, also a Google Software Engineer, had a similar educational background. Property records mentioned by the Hindustan Times revealed that the couple purchased the home in April 2023, where the tragic incident occurred.

The situation surrounding legal representation for Chen remains unclear. Google expressed shock and deep sadness over the incident, extending condolences to Xuanyi Yu's family and offering support to coworkers processing the tragic news.

In a heartbreaking turn of events, a 42-year-old mother, Andrea Alarcon, is reported to have fatally shot her 51-year-old husband, Ruben Alarcon, and their two daughters, Scarlett (9) and Emma (6), before taking her own life in a murder-suicide in their Union, N.J., home. The Union County Sheriff’s Department discovered the devastating scene last Wednesday.

The daughters, Scarlett and Emma, were identified in an online obituary, but their names were not disclosed by authorities. Investigators found the murder weapon beside Andrea's body, determining that she was responsible for the tragic deaths of her husband and children before succumbing to a self-inflicted gunshot.

The residence, owned by the Alarcon family, had been foreclosed on and sold in a sheriff's sale for $332,000 on October 31. The family, who had lived there for 15 years, had 60 days to vacate, according to reports.

Neighbors revealed that the family hadn't been seen recently, with some expressing surprise about the presence of children in the house. In a press statement, Union County Prosecutor William A. Daniel offered condolences, acknowledging the magnitude of the tragedy.

Despite the absence of a disclosed motive, a tribute fund raised over $15,000 in less than a week, reflecting the community's support for the grieving Alarcon family. Messages on the tribute page expressed deep sympathy and love for the family, emphasizing the impact they had on others' lives.

• The body of John Allen Gaither was found in Jerri Lynn Roby's Gulfport, Mississippi home.

Gulfport Police Department noted on Facebook that Roby, 66, who also goes by the last name Isreal, was arrested and charged with one count of first-degree murder.

Police said they found the body of John Allen Gaither, 42, in a “wooden box” hidden behind the “false wall” in her his mother's home. Gulfport Police Department spokesman Jason DuCré confirmed that Gaither was Jerri Lynn Roby’s son.

Authorities started investigating after officers responded to a residence in connection to a welfare concern regarding a possible missing person. Reports say the last known contact with Gaither was on Dec. 10.

Five days later police conducted several follow-ups and “began noticing discrepancies in statements provided by Isreal. Isreal became increasingly uncooperative and changed her statements multiple times,” police said

Authorities added that Roby had previously been arrested and convicted of murder in Florida around 1995, and “made several attempts to dump the deceased subject at different locations throughout Florida.”

Detectives obtained a search warrant for her home and conducted a search. According to CNN, when detectives walked into her home, Roby took a handful of unspecified pills. She was transported to a hospital for medical treatment.

The search led to the discovery of Gaither's body.

Reports say Roby attempted to cover up the crime by writing notes to family members posing as her son. multiple homemade wooden boxes were found in her home and inside her garage, according to police.

Following her release from the hospital, “Isreal was processed and transported to the Harrison County Adult Detention Center to be held in lieu of her bond,” the statement said.
