Her body was found the next day in a wooded area, triggering an investigation that went cold. Similarly, in 1989, 18-year-old Amy Baker disappeared on her way home to Stafford County, her body discovered days later in a nearby wooded area. Forensic evidence was collected in both cases, but they remained unsolved until recent breakthroughs in DNA analysis.
Advancements in forensic science, including forensic investigative genetic genealogy, helped crack the cases. DNA evidence led to a breakthrough in 2021, linking both murders. Detectives joined forces, identifying a suspect: Elroy Harrison, 65, from Stafford County. Harrison's DNA matched evidence from both cases, leading to his indictment for Lard's murder. Though charges have yet to be filed in Baker's case, authorities are closing in on Harrison.
Sue Baker, Amy's mother, expressed gratitude for the advancements in forensic science and hopes for justice in both cases. Harrison remains in custody without bond, awaiting further legal proceedings. Lard's family declined to comment at this time, while Sue Baker emphasized the importance of ensuring Harrison remains incarcerated.
