DailyKenn.com — Justin Hopper, a 33-year-old Texas man, has been convicted and sentenced to life in prison for the abuse of his twin 6-year-old daughters, resulting in the death of one of them, Arianna Battelle.
Hopper was found guilty of injury to a child with intent to cause bodily injury and was ordered to pay a $10,000 fine. The jury reached the verdict after just 15 minutes of deliberation.
In 2023, Hopper's wife and the twins' stepmother, Jessica Bundren, was also convicted of injury to a child intentionally causing serious bodily injury in Arianna's death and was similarly sentenced to life in prison.
The abuse reportedly stemmed from the children's bedwetting and not eating fast enough.
Arianna was discovered dead on October 27, 2020, in her family's home after Bryan police responded to a 911 call about a child not breathing. Initially, Bundren claimed Arianna fell down the stairs, but later admitted to beating her with a belt and forcing her to sleep on the floor as punishment for wetting the bed. Arianna was found with bruises, welts, and puncture marks on her body .
A forensic nurse testified that this was the worst case of child abuse she had ever seen, underscoring the severity of the crime. Kimberly Elias, Hopper’s stepmother, expressed satisfaction with the life sentence, emphasizing that anything less would have diminished the seriousness of the crime.
Hopper will be eligible for parole in 2054.
