DailyKenn.com — Deputy Bradley J. Reckling, 30, was fatally shot in Detroit, MI.
An Oakland County deputy was shot and killed in the line of duty Saturday night, according to the sheriff's office.
Police say a car was stolen between 1 p.m. and 5:15 p.m. on Saturday.
The sheriff’s auto theft unit began searching for the stolen 2022 Chevrolet Equinox. Three detectives were looking for the vehicle in Detroit when one of them located it. As the detective followed the vehicle, the driver stopped, and people exited the car, opening fire on Reckling in what was described as “an ambush.”
Reckling was shot in the head, chest, and torso. The unmarked car did not have a dash camera.
Three were taken into custody. The media neglected to mention their race.
As of the most recent U.S. Census data, the racial demographics of Detroit, Michigan, are as follows:
Black: 77.1%
White (Non-Hispanic): 10.0%
Hispanic or Latino: 7.7%
Asian: 1.3%
Two or More Races: 3.3%
Other Races: 0.5%
Reckling was a husband and father of three young children—ages 5, 4, and 1—with a fourth child on the way.
