Patrick Heringer, a 46‑year‑old U.S. Army veteran and co‑founder of the Findlay Movement gym in Cincinnati, was tragically killed during a home invasion at his East McMicken Avenue residence on June 4, 2025, in the pre‑dawn hours.
Mordecia Black, 38, has been arrested and charged with murder and aggravated burglary in connection with the fatal stabbing. Police responded around 4 a.m. and found Heringer stabbed multiple times, including in the neck. He was taken to UC Medical Center, where he later died from his injuries.
According to WCPO and FOX19, surveillance footage and physical evidence—such as Black’s clothing and the murder weapon—link him to the crime scene. He is currently being held on a $2.25 million bond.
Heringer was well known in the local fitness community and deeply loved as a coach and mentor at Findlay Movement. Friends and colleagues have described him as a “pillar of the community,” remembered for his leadership and compassion. A memorial outside the gym continues to draw members and supporters.
The investigation and court proceedings have drawn attention to Black’s prior criminal record, including a 2016 conviction for felonious assault and aggravated rioting, and a recent burglary allegation in May. He was released from prison in January 2025, removed his ankle monitor in February, and was not apprehended until after Heringer’s death in June.
Hamilton County Prosecutor Connie Pillich has since indicted Black on 14 charges, including multiple counts of aggravated murder, murder, felonious assault, burglary, and trespassing—any of which could carry a sentence of life without parole upon conviction.
