The incident unfolded around 11:15 p.m. at Windy City Sundries, a popular downtown bar on Third Street Southwest. Hickory police responded to reports of gunfire and found Davis suffering from gunshot wounds in the back parking lot. He was pronounced dead at the scene despite efforts by emergency responders. A second victim, whose identity and condition were not immediately released, was also shot but survived after being transported to a local hospital.

Investigators identified 26-year-old Jermaine Ramseur of Hickory as the suspect, noting that he knew both victims. Ramseur, who fled the scene in a vehicle, was apprehended early Saturday morning in nearby Newton through a joint operation involving the Catawba County Sheriff's Office and Newton Police Department. He faces a first-degree murder charge and is being held without bond at the Catawba County Detention Facility.

Police described the shooting as targeted, stemming from an altercation among acquaintances, and urged anyone with information to contact Investigator Chris Laffon at 828-261-2636 or claffon@hickorync.gov. The case remains under active investigation.

Davis, a lifelong Hickory resident and recent graduate of Catawba Valley Community College, leaves behind a close-knit family and friends who remembered him as outgoing and passionate about outdoor activities. A vigil is planned for Sunday evening outside the pub.
