CINCINNATI (DailyKenn.com) — A 23-year-old woman was fatally shot in a residential neighborhood here, prompting a swift arrest in what police described as a targeted incident.

The shooting occurred Sunday night in the Winton Hills area, where officers responded to reports of gunfire on Kings Run Court around 10 p.m. Upon arrival, they found the victim suffering from a single gunshot wound to the upper body. She was transported to a nearby hospital, where she was pronounced dead shortly after.

The victim was identified as Rachel Counts, a Cincinnati resident. Authorities have not released additional details about her background or the circumstances leading to the confrontation, citing the ongoing investigation.

On Monday morning, detectives arrested Omarion Horne, 25, also of Cincinnati, in connection with the slaying. Horne has been charged with murder and felonious assault with a deadly weapon. He is being held without bond at the Hamilton County Justice Center, with an initial court appearance scheduled for Tuesday.

Witnesses reported hearing multiple shots in the quiet community, but no other injuries were reported. Investigators believe the incident was isolated and do not anticipate further arrests at this time.

The killing marks the latest in a string of gun violence incidents in the city this year, prompting renewed calls from local leaders for community intervention programs. A vigil for Counts is planned for Wednesday evening in Winton Hills.
