TWIN LAKES, Wis. — Authorities say a 35-year-old man fatally shot his girlfriend inside their shared apartment here Monday morning, firing every round in his handgun’s magazine while the couple’s 11-month-old son was nearby.

Twin Lakes police officers responded to the Tan Oak Apartments at 1615 Wilmot Avenue around 9 a.m. after receiving a report of a shooting. They found 37-year-old Amber K. Montana dead inside from multiple gunshot wounds. An 11-month-old child and a dog were also in the residence but were not injured. Officers took Brandyn R. Hall into custody at the scene without incident.

During the investigation, Hall admitted to the shooting and had called 911 to confess, according to prosecutors. The child was later turned over to a family member.

Hall appeared in court Tuesday, where prosecutors described the killing as execution-style and said he fired all 10 rounds from the magazine. He faces charges of first-degree intentional homicide, first-degree recklessly endangering safety, possession of a firearm by a felon and disorderly conduct while armed. A judge set cash bond at $2 million.

Twin Lakes police and the Kenosha County Sheriff’s Office investigated the case jointly. No further details about a possible motive have been released.

The incident left the village’s small apartment complex quiet in the hours afterward, with no immediate threat to the broader public identified by authorities.
