WYNCOTE, Pa. — A 28-year-old Philadelphia resident has been charged with attempted murder after authorities say he stabbed a Planet Fitness employee multiple times during an altercation at a gym in Montgomery County.

Davier Massey, of the 7600 block of Rugby Street, allegedly returned to the Planet Fitness location in the Wyncote section of Cheltenham Township on Thursday, April 2, one day after being banned over an unpaid membership bill. Police reported that he visited the facility twice that afternoon and caused disturbances on both occasions.

During the second visit, shortly after 12:30 p.m., an argument with a male employee escalated into violence. Investigators said Massey produced a knife and stabbed the worker several times, inflicting life-threatening injuries. The victim was transported to a trauma center for treatment and is recovering, according to authorities.

Officers responded quickly and found Massey a short distance away inside the same shopping center. He was taken into custody without further incident. Surveillance footage and witness statements aided in the rapid identification and apprehension of the suspect, police said.

Massey faces charges including criminal attempt to commit murder of the first degree, aggravated assault, recklessly endangering another person, possession of an instrument of crime, simple assault, terroristic threats, criminal mischief, harassment and disorderly conduct. A judge denied bail during his arraignment, and he is being held at the Montgomery County Correctional Facility. His preliminary hearing is set for April 16.

The incident took place at the gym in the 1000 block of South Easton Road.m-gym-police)
