CONWAY, Ark. — A 32-year-old Walmart employee died from multiple stab wounds inside the Skyline Drive Supercenter late on the night of March 31 after a man armed with a knife attacked her while she worked her shift.
The episode began at approximately 10:58 p.m. when Conway police received reports of a male stabbing a female employee inside the store. Officers arrived within about one minute and found 37-year-old Zeddrick Ross still holding the knife. Ross advanced on the officers and ignored repeated commands to drop the weapon. One officer fired a single shot that missed; a second officer then deployed a Taser. Ross was taken into custody at the scene without sustaining any gunshot wound or other apparent injury. No shoppers or other employees were hurt.
Officers and emergency medical personnel immediately provided aid to Jordanne Drinkwater, the victim, but she died at the scene from her injuries. Drinkwater had been working her normal shift at the time of the attack.
Ross was transported to the Faulkner County Detention Center. He faces a charge of first-degree murder. An affidavit filed in the case states that Ross told investigators he had stolen the large knife earlier from a Walgreens store to protect himself from a demon he believed had been stalking him — a light-skinned Black woman with brown eyes and a weave. He said he entered the Walmart seeking a machete when he encountered Drinkwater and stabbed her several times in the neck and shoulder, only realizing afterward that she did not match the description of the demon he claimed to have seen.
The two had no prior relationship, and the encounter was random. Ross remained in custody as the investigation continued.
The incident occurred with employees and shoppers still inside the store, though none required medical attention beyond the immediate response to the victim.
