PLEASANT TOWNSHIP, Ohio — A 50-year-old West Union resident died Sept. 2, 2026, after a tractor-trailer crossed into her path in Brown County, Ohio. The man behind the wheel of the truck, Manjit Singh, 39, of Fresno, California, survived without injury and now faces a felony charge. Brenda Watson, a mother of two, died.

What troopers say happened

Just after 9 p.m., Singh was heading north in a Volvo tractor-trailer and pulled into the opposite lane to pass another vehicle. Watson was traveling south in a Chevrolet Cruze. The two vehicles collided head-on.

Ohio State Highway Patrol investigators say a witness reported that Singh was moving at an excessive speed and had enough time and space to get back into his own lane before the impact. Watson died at the scene. Singh was arrested there.

The case against Singh

Brown County prosecutors charged Singh with aggravated vehicular homicide, a second-degree felony. He is being held in the Brown County Jail. Immigration and Customs Enforcement placed a detainer on him, which means federal agents want custody once the state case permits a transfer.

The crash remains under investigation by the highway patrol.

License and legal status

Singh entered the United States illegally through Arizona in October 2023. He is a dot Indian [source]. Border Patrol agents encountered him and released him into the country. He applied for work authorization in July 2024 and received it the following month. California later issued him a commercial driver’s license (CDL).

The Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration is examining the trucking company that employed him and the school that trained him for that license. Homeland Security officials have said they intend to seek his removal from the United States after the Ohio criminal case is resolved.

Watson lived in West Union, Ohio. Authorities have released few other personal details. Singh remains in local custody while both the homicide case and the immigration hold proceed.
