DailyKenn.com — David Treese, 45, was fatally shot in Rochester, NY, while working as a cab driver.
David Porter, 36, was arrested. He faces charges including murder, robbery, and criminal possession of a weapon.
According to authorities, Treese was on duty around 3 a.m. when he responded to a call on First Street. Upon arrival, Porter reportedly entered the cab with a firearm, assaulting Treese and demanded money.
The assault continued as the cab moved away, with Porter firing approximately five to six shots at close range, fatally striking Treese multiple times in the upper body, stated Police Chief David Smith.
Treese exited the cab, collapsed and succumbed to his injuries.
Porter reportedly jumped into the driver's seat and drove off but crashed the cab and fled on foot. Authorities located him the following day at an apartment.
Furthermore, Porter, with a history of prior felony and misdemeanor convictions, is prohibited from possessing a handgun in New York state.
Porter also faces charges related to a separate incident of criminal obstruction of breathing.
