Patrol East officers are flagged down at 3:40 a.m. by a resident reporting that a man has broken into their home. The resident, who lives with a 21-year-old victim and is in a relationship with them, tells officers that the suspect is armed with a handgun and has made suicidal statements.
Officers attempt to contact the man, but receive no response. SWAT and crisis negotiators are called to the scene, but they are unable to communicate with the suspect. When SWAT officers enter the home, they find both the man and the woman dead from gunshot wounds.
The Wichita Police Department expresses condolences to the families involved, stating that their victim assistance advocates will provide the necessary support and resources to those affected by the tragedy.
