Fairmont Man Fatally Shot; Mother and Son Charged in Killing
FAIRMONT, N.C. — A 35-year-old man was found dead from gunshot wounds at a home in Fairmont on Friday afternoon, prompting the arrest of a mother and son on murder and related charges, authorities said.

Deputies from the Robeson County Sheriff's Office responded to a report of a shooting at a residence on Williamson Road just before 1 p.m. Oct. 24, where they discovered Ray Dewayne Hodge unresponsive. Emergency responders pronounced Hodge dead at the scene.
Aaron R. Hunt, 24, of Fairmont, was charged with first-degree murder, felony conspiracy and stealing, altering or destroying evidence. His mother, Sindaor Hunt, 48, faced charges of accessory after the fact to murder, felony conspiracy and stealing, altering or destroying evidence. Both were placed in the Robeson County Detention Center without bond, according to the sheriff's office. No motive was immediately released.
The killing came amid a rash of gun violence in the region, including a mass shooting the following night at a house party in Robeson County that left two people dead and 11 others wounded, many of them teenagers. Robeson and neighboring Marlboro county sheriffs described the incidents as "deeply troubling" and "senseless acts," urging the public to come forward with tips to curb the violence.
Hodge, a Fairmont resident, leaves behind family and friends who remembered him as a dedicated community member. Funeral arrangements were pending as of Monday.
