A teen presenting as transgender planned a Valentine's Day massacre in Mooresville, Indiana. The plot was foiled by an anonymous call to an FBI hotline.
Trinity Shockley, an 18-year-old transgender student from Mooresville, Indiana, has been at the center of multiple news stories since February 2025, when authorities arrested her for allegedly plotting a mass shooting at Mooresville High School on Valentine's Day.
The plot was uncovered via an anonymous tip to the FBI's Sandy Hook Promise tip line. Shockley, who identifies as a transgender male and goes by the name Jamie, expressed an obsession with mass shooters, particularly Nikolas Cruz (the Parkland shooter).
A police search of her home revealed a "shrine" to killers including Cruz, Dylann Roof, and others, along with notebooks containing violent drawings and homicidal thoughts. She had sought mental health help repeatedly but was denied by her father until turning 18. Shockley initially claimed the threats were a "joke" but later admitted to planning the attack to prove she was Cruz's "number one fan."
The case gained renewed attention in late October 2025 when Shockley entered a guilty plea to conspiracy to commit murder as part of a plea deal. Sentencing is set for November 24, 2025, with a potential sentence of up to 20 years (advisory 10–30 years), including 12.5 years in prison, 5 years of probation, mandatory mental health treatment, and restrictions like no firearms ownership or research on mass shootings.
