AUSTIN, Texas (DailyKenn.com) — Authorities say a dispute between roommates at a group home turned deadly when a 22-year-old man allegedly stabbed his 74-year-old housemate, leading to the older man's death and a murder charge against the younger resident.

Police responded to a disturbance call at 7:04 a.m. on Dec. 18 at a residence in the 11100 block of Bending Bough Trail, according to the Austin Police Department. Officers arrived to find Walter Connor suffering from multiple stab wounds inside the home. Emergency personnel rushed him to a nearby hospital, where medical staff pronounced him dead at 7:52 a.m.

Investigators determined that Connor and the suspect, Isaiah Jackson, shared the group home and had a history of conflicts. Days before the attack, Connor had slapped Jackson across the face, poked him in the chest, and directed a racial slur at him, Jackson told detectives during questioning. He added that Connor had expressed frustration about Jackson living there and had demanded he leave. Jackson described the earlier altercation as igniting intense anger within him, though he insisted no argument occurred on the morning of the stabbing.

A fellow resident recounted hearing raised voices between the two men that morning. Upon checking, the witness discovered Connor collapsed in a growing pool of blood while Jackson knelt nearby, gripping a knife. Jackson then fled the property on foot before police arrived, but he returned to the scene shortly after as detectives processed evidence and was immediately detained without resistance.

Jackson now faces a first-degree murder charge, with authorities classifying the case as the city's 52nd homicide of the year. An Austin police corporal addressed the tragedy in a statement, noting the profound grief families endure during the holiday season and affirming the department's resolve to uncover the full circumstances and hold those responsible accountable.

Residents in the Quail Hollow neighborhood voiced unease about recurring problems at the group home. One longtime neighbor reported frequent disturbances, including loud arguments, physical fights, and even an intentional fire in the past, prompting unsuccessful attempts to seek stricter oversight from local officials. The incident has heightened calls for better regulation of such facilities to prevent future violence.

Authorities urged anyone with additional details to contact the police tip line or submit anonymous information through Crime Stoppers.
