GREENSBORO, N.C. — A 36-year-old man has been charged with first-degree murder in the shooting death of 72-year-old Danny Eugene Williams, authorities said, marking the third homicide in the city this year.

Greensboro police, along with fire and emergency medical crews, responded to the 3300 block of North O’Henry Boulevard shortly after 4:26 p.m. on Sunday, March 23, following reports of an aggravated assault. Officers located Williams inside an apartment suffering from a gunshot wound. Emergency personnel performed life-saving measures at the scene, but Williams was pronounced dead a short time later.

Investigators quickly identified Passhion Michael Barr as the suspect. Officers with the Greensboro Police Department’s Violent Criminal Response Team located and arrested him later that evening in the 3300 block of Trent Street. Barr was taken into custody without incident.

In addition to the first-degree murder charge, Barr faces counts of possession of a concealed gun, resisting arrest and two drug-related offenses. He made his first court appearance Monday, where a judge noted that he could face the death penalty or life in prison without the possibility of parole if convicted. Barr is being held without bond in the Guilford County Jail.

Police have notified Williams’ next of kin. Authorities have not released a possible motive and described the investigation as ongoing. No additional details about the circumstances leading up to the shooting have been made public.
