SPRINGFIELD, Mo. — An 18-year-old man has been charged with first-degree murder in the ambush shooting death of a 15-year-old boy in a southwest Springfield neighborhood earlier this month.

Miles Young was found with a single gunshot wound to the chest on March 12 in the 3800 block of West Maplewood Street. Deputies with the Greene County Sheriff’s Office responded to a death investigation call in the residential area between the James River Freeway and Republic Road. Young was transported to Cox South Hospital, where he was pronounced dead. His death was ruled a homicide.

According to court documents, the suspect planned and arranged the confrontation that led to the fatal encounter. The shooter ambushed Young, pursued him on foot through the area, and fired the shot while the teenager pleaded for his life before fleeing the scene. Those involved left the location prior to law enforcement arrival.

On March 18, members of the Greene County Sheriff’s Office fugitive apprehension team and the U.S. Marshals Service arrested Praize King. He is being held in the Greene County Jail facing charges of first-degree murder, a Class A felony, and armed criminal action. Authorities have indicated that other suspects may remain at large as the investigation continues.

Young, who lived in the Springfield area, was 15 years old at the time of his death on March 12, 2026.
