PORTLAND, Ore. — A 50-year-old Portland man who was shot multiple times at a Northeast Portland motel on March 5 has died from his injuries, prompting authorities to reclassify the case as a homicide and prepare upgraded charges against the man already in custody.
Portland police and emergency responders arrived at the Horseshoe Inn Motel, 13300 block of Northeast Sandy Boulevard, just before 3 a.m. after receiving reports of shots fired in the Parkrose area. Officers discovered Robert Mikel Lambert suffering from severe gunshot wounds. He was rushed to a hospital, where he remained in critical condition for several days.
On March 12, Lambert died of his injuries. The Multnomah County Medical Examiner’s Office conducted an autopsy and ruled the death a homicide on March 14, determining that a gunshot wound was the cause.
In the immediate aftermath of the shooting, police cordoned off multiple blocks and deployed K-9 teams and drones to search the vicinity. Officers located 40-year-old Pryce Lampkin hiding in a nearby yard and arrested him without resistance. A firearm believed to be used in the shooting was recovered a short distance from his hiding spot.
Lampkin was booked into the Multnomah County Detention Center on March 5 on initial charges of second-degree attempted murder, first-degree assault and unlawful use of a weapon. Following the homicide determination, the Multnomah County District Attorney’s Office is expected to file murder charges against him.
Investigators have not released details about what led to the shooting or whether the two men were acquainted. No witness statements have been made public. The Portland Police Bureau continues its investigation under case number 26-63870 and asks anyone with information to call detectives at 503-823-0479 or email homicidetips@police.portlandoregon.gov.
