A 40-year-old Haitian national named Rolbert Joachin stands accused of fatally bludgeoning a 51-year-old woman outside a Fort Myers convenience store in a calculated daylight attack captured on surveillance video.
The incident took place on April 3 at a Chevron gas station on Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard. Joachin first damaged the victim’s car by smashing its windshield with a hammer, drawing her out of the store. He then approached Nilufa Easmin — a Bangladeshi immigrant and mother of two who worked as a clerk there — and struck her repeatedly in the head with the same weapon. She was pronounced dead at the scene.
A witness told police he observed the suspect hitting the woman multiple times during the assault. Video footage from the store’s security cameras recorded the entire sequence, showing Joachin luring Easmin outside before carrying out the attack.
Fort Myers police quickly identified Joachin from the footage and launched a search. Officers located him walking nearby several hours later and took him into custody. During questioning, after being read his Miranda rights in Creole, Joachin confessed in detail. He told detectives he had gone to the station specifically to kill Easmin, whom he had encountered two days earlier. He deliberately wore the same clothing from that prior visit so she would recognize him and come outside after he damaged her car.
Joachin now faces second-degree murder and criminal mischief charges related to the property damage. He pleaded not guilty in a subsequent court appearance despite the confession and remains held without bond at the Lee County Jail. Immigration authorities have lodged a detainer, noting his arrival in the United States in 2022 and prior Temporary Protected Status that had lapsed.
The case continues under active investigation by local police and federal partners.
