A 41-year-old white Michigan man was killed in Sterling Heights, and prosecutors have charged two black males in connection with his death. Randy K. Abro, a resident of nearby Utica, died Oct. 7, 2026, after being shot at a commercial property. The investigation has since led to felony murder charges against two suspects from different states.
Police were called to the area shortly after 2 p.m. following a report of possible gunfire. When officers arrived, they found Abro suffering from apparent gunshot wounds. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
Authorities have not publicly detailed what led to the shooting or explained the circumstances surrounding the encounter.
Two Suspects Face Felony Murder Charges
Kenneth Hollins Morgan, 41, of Detroit, was arrested in Warren on Oct. 16, according to authorities. He was arraigned Oct. 19 in Sterling Heights' 41-A District Court.
Morgan faces a felony murder charge, two counts of felony firearm, carrying a concealed weapon and possession of a firearm by a prohibited person. Prosecutors also filed a fourth-offense habitual offender notice. The court set his bond at $2 million cash or surety, and he was remanded to custody.
A second suspect, Jerome Charles Eursher, 31, of Solon, Ohio, turned himself in to authorities on Oct. 20. He was arraigned the following day on charges including felony murder, felony firearm and carrying a concealed weapon.
Eursher's bond was set at $4 million cash or surety. If released on bond, he would be required to wear a GPS monitoring tether, according to the prosecutor's office. He also was remanded to custody.
The charges reflect prosecutors' allegations, not findings of guilt. Both defendants are presumed innocent unless proven guilty in court.
Investigation Moves Into the Courtroom
Sterling Heights police worked with other law enforcement agencies during the investigation. Authorities have said automated license plate reader technology helped support the inquiry, although it was not the sole basis for identifying suspects or obtaining arrest warrants.
Both men were scheduled for probable cause conferences on Nov. 2, 2026, in 41-A District Court. Those proceedings are expected to mark another step in determining how the cases will proceed.
Victim's ethnicity
According to grok.com, the victim was an Iraqi Christian: "Son of Kamal Abro and the late Huda Abro. Loving husband of Merna Pato Abro and father of two young sons (ages about 9 and 3; names reported as Madden and Castel in one source). He worked in small business finance. The family and community identified him as Chaldean (Iraqi Christian/Eastern Catholic). His funeral mass was held at Holy Martyrs Chaldean Catholic Church in Sterling Heights."
