Graeme Dobbeck, a 36-year-old gas station manager in Seattle, Washington, was fatally shot on Oct. 13, 2026, while working behind the counter. A man entered the business and fatally shot him. Investigators later identified the suspect as a former employee of the same gas station.
Authorities arrested the suspect in Chicago after a multistate search.
Police response
Seattle police responded to the gas station at approximately 5:52 a.m. after receiving reports of a shooting. Officers found Dobbeck unresponsive behind the counter with multiple gunshot wounds. Emergency medical personnel pronounced him dead at the scene.
Investigators reviewed surveillance footage to reconstruct the moments leading up to the killing. According to court documents, the video showed a man entering the store, selecting a drink and approaching the checkout counter.
The footage allegedly captured the suspect moving behind the counter and firing several shots at Dobbeck before leaving the business. Investigators reported no apparent argument or robbery preceding the shooting. Authorities have not publicly cited a motive.
Suspect Arrested
Police identified Michael Anthony O’Neal Fleming, 33, as the suspect. Investigators learned that Fleming had previously worked at the gas station before leaving the job days before the killing.
According to court records, the station's owner recognized Fleming in surveillance footage. The owner reportedly told investigators that Fleming had submitted his resignation and that his final shift was about 10 days before Dobbeck was killed.
On Oct. 20, prosecutors charged Fleming with first-degree murder, along with a firearm enhancement. He was arrested in Chicago later that day with assistance from the U.S. Marshals Service.
More deaths
The investigation also expanded into Wisconsin, where authorities discovered the bodies of Fleming’s mother, Rena O’Neal, 59, and her husband, Rodney Brushwood, 57, during a welfare check in Kenosha on Oct. 19. Both had suffered fatal gunshot wounds. Investigators identified Fleming as a person of interest in those deaths, though the Wisconsin case remained separate from the Seattle charge.
