JUDSON, S.C. — Chloe Jade Brown was 22, a tattoo artist and a mother of two young boys was fatally shot Oct. 13, 2026, in Greenville County, South Carolina.
Authorities classified Brown’s death as a homicide after deputies discovered her and a 25-year-old Aavion Mardreckus Wright dead inside a home in the Judson community.
What investigators found
Deputies with the Greenville County Sheriff's Office responded to the residence at approximately 9:30 p.m. Tuesday. Both individuals were pronounced dead at the scene.
The Greenville County Coroner’s Office identified the woman as Brown, who was from Walhalla, South Carolina. Officials determined that she died from multiple gunshot wounds.
The man was identified as Wright, of Seneca, South Carolina. The coroner reported that Wright died from a single gunshot wound that he inflicted on himself. His death was ruled a suicide.
Investigators classified the incident as a murder-suicide. Authorities have not publicly provided a complete account of the events leading up to the shootings.
A mother remembered for her children
Brown’s obituary described her two sons, Bayler and Waylynn Hembree, as the center of her life. She was born May 18, 2004, in Seneca and was the daughter of Devin Carter and Kayla Brown.
Beyond her role as a mother, Brown worked as a tattoo artist. A close friend who spoke with local television station FOX Carolina said Brown had been dealing with domestic violence for an extended period. The friend also confirmed that Brown and Wright had been in a relationship.
Those details offer some context about the circumstances surrounding the deaths, although officials have not released a comprehensive account of the couple’s relationship or the events immediately before the shooting.
Brown’s death also leaves her family with the difficult task of caring for her two boys while arranging her funeral. A gofundme.com page (see above photo) was created on behalf of the family is intended to help cover funeral expenses and provide support for the children.
I could not find an obituary for Wright. The image used in the thumbnail has not been verified, but is "widely circulated on x.com." He is presumed to be black.
Takeaway
In my opinion, those in abusive relationships need to make getting out a matter of urgency and take steps to do so before the situation turns deadly. I’ve also noticed that relationships between white women and black men frequently fail.Your $8 monthly partner pledge helps us reach others & more ►
