DailyKenn.com —A group of never-Trumpers are pondering the possibility of forming a new party to free themselves of the MAGA movement.

While such a move could fracture the Republican Party, it would essentially result in the GOP being firmly controlled by Trump-backing patriots. The new party would likely flounder in time, but could cause enough division to deny Trump a come-back victory in 2024 and, possibly, deny the Republicans from regaining both Houses of Congress in 2022.

Takeaways...

• We're guessing the new party's mascot will the the rhino rather than elephant.

Call them never-Trumpers, RINOs, or Rockefeller Republicans. There has been a moderate minority faction within the GOP for decades. Likewise, the MAGA movement is nothing new. The movement is largely the legacy of the Tea Party movement which was a rebranding of the silent majority.

A group of more than 100 former Republican officials have discussed the possibility of forming a conservative party due to their unhappiness with the direction of the GOP under former President Donald Trump and the likelihood he'll be acquitted at the end of his second impeachment trial, according to Republicans who participated in the conversation.

Former Republican House Rep. Charlie Dent confirmed to CNN that he and about 120 Republicans held a conversation last Friday about whether to form a new party or a new faction within the Republican Party that would operate independently from the GOP.
