DailyKenn.com — Portland, Oregon mayor Ted Wheeler may have committed the unforgivable sin against the Woke cult's 'de-fund the police' mantra. Wheeler asked for $2-million in emergency funds for the police department.

Portland immersed itself in the de-fend the police movement back in June, 2020. The result was an increase in crime.

According to Washington Examiner, the was only one homicide in Portland at this point last year. This year there have been 20 homicides to date. That's a 2000 percent increase. What's more, there have been 208 shootings in the city.

It's a classic example of far-left policies that create the problem they intend to resolve.

City leaders who supported the movement to de-fund the police seem to have blood on their hands. They also don't seem remorseful.

Oregon has a history of unorthodox methods of dealing with violent crime. Shortly after its inception, Oregon instituted "lash laws" in 1844. The laws prohibited blacks from being in the state.

"The first such law took effect in 1844, when the Provisional Government of Oregon voted to exclude black settlers from Oregon's borders. The law authorized a punishment for any black settler remaining in the territory to be whipped with 'not less than twenty nor more than thirty-nine stripes' for every six months they remained," according to wikipedia.com

Mayor Ted Wheeler has requested $2 million in emergency funding for the police department, pointing directly to the surge in gun violence. At this point last year, Portland had seen just one homicide. This year, that number is 20, with 208 shootings in the city so far.

Wheeler backed the Portland City Council’s decision to cut $15 million from the police budget last June, which included disbanding police units that investigate gun violence. Predictably, that move backfired in a city that saw 100 consecutive days of violent rioting last year.

Riots are back once again in the city, thanks to Wheeler’s spinelessness. Rioters have once again targeted a federal courthouse in the city, a reprise of the violent storming of the courthouse last July. In June, it was reported that the city lost around $24 million due to the riots. Damage to federal buildings totals roughly $2.3 million.
