AbateHate.com — Officer Chris Oberheim, age 44, was fatally shot in Champaign, Illinois.
The suspect accused of shooting the officer, 24-year-old Darion M. Lafayette of Champaign, was also killed in an apparent exchange of gunfire.
The cause of the encounter was not reported. However, Lafayette had a history of domestic violence.
A second officer was also shot, but remains in stable condition.
The incident occurred May 19, 2021.

Two Champaign Police officers were shot early Wednesday morning.
One of the officers and the suspect who allegedly shot them have died.
