AbateHate.com — Sgt. Josh Bartlett, age 38, was fatally shot in Levelland, Texas.
Arrested was 22-year-old Omar Soto-Chavira.
Reports say Bartlett was shot when the SWAT team he led confronted the suspect at a residence. Bartlett died of his wounds in a hospital. Four other SWAT team members were wounded by the gunman.
Police were called after the suspect was seen walking in the neighborhood with a firearm. When police arrived, the suspect reportedly opened fire from the doorway of the home. A standoff lasted about ten hours.
Omar is a masculine name frequently used by Muslims. The suspect's ethnicity was not disclosed in news reports. He is presumed to be of Middle-eastern descent. Court records present Omar Soto-Chavira as "White".
