2 The Audubon Society's employees’ union is deplorably racist.

I suspect number 2. Here's why...

The woke left uses 'racism' to excuse its racism.

'Racism' is the excuse for erasing and displacing white Western culture. That includes erasing our history and forgetting our most accomplished ancestors.

John James Audubon is not to be remembered even though he has long been recognized as "a prominent 19th-century artist, naturalist ... whose detailed, colourful paintings in the book The Birds of America set the gold standard for generations of ornithologists."

Now for the reckoning.

Audubon (1785 - 1861), it turns out, was a slaveholder. Therefore, his sweeping contributions to ornithology must be ignored.

There is no sin greater than racism (or, at least, white racism). It is so severe that it overshadows all positive cultural contributions. Or, so the woke left seems to believe.

Audubon is also being damned as a race realist, even though the woke left doesn't use that term.

"John James Audubon [was] a racist white man who enslaved at least nine Black people and contributed to Samuel George Morton’s ‘race science’, which claimed white superiority over other races, ideas criticised at the time and now discredited," according to theguardian.com quoting  the newly named Bird Union

Morton was a scientist who noticed that the skulls of Caucasians were larger than the skulls of Negros. This implied larger brains and, therefore, higher intellects. Such thinking is unconscionable to the woke left — never mind the overwhelming research that, in the aggregate, confirms the intellectual superiority of whites over blacks.

Morton also believed that God created each race separately.

Morton's collection of skulls demonstrating his hypothesis have been retained for decades at the University of Pennsylvania Museum of Archaeology and Anthropology [source]. 13 skulls from the massive collection — those of black Philadelphians — were recently removed and buried [source].

How they knew the 13 skulls were those of blacks is an enigma. Race, they insist, is a social construct with no biological support.
