DailyKenn.com — Lisa Lopez-Galvan, 45, was fatally shot at the the Kansas City Chiefs' Super Bowl celebration in Kansas City, MO.
Lyndell Mays, 23, and Dominic Miller, 18, have been charged with second-degree murder, armed criminal action, and unlawful use of a weapon following a deadly shooting at the Kansas City Chiefs' Super Bowl celebration.
Court documents reveal that Mays confessed to the shooting, admitting his actions were senseless and "stupid." Jackson
County Prosecutor Jean Peters Baker said, noting that Lopez-Galvan was allegedly fatally shot by a bullet from Miller's gun.
Detective Grant Spiking reported that the incident began when four men confronted Mays, leading to an argument about staring. Mays allegedly pulled out a gun first, which resulted in others, including Miller, drawing their firearms. Miller is believed to have fired the fatal shot that killed Lopez-Galvan. A stolen Glock 9mm handgun was found near Mays.
Despite Mays' sister defending him, claiming he was only trying to protect her, Mays has a prior gun-related conviction. In 2021, he was arrested for pulling out a handgun during an argument while playing basketball and was later sentenced to probation.
Mays' mother, Teneal Burnside, set up a GoFundMe for him, pleading for financial help as Mays recovers in the ICU after being shot nine times during the incident.
Prosecutor Jean Peters Baker stated that the investigation is ongoing, with additional suspects being sought. The Jackson County Prosecutors Office is working with the ATF to analyze bullets and shell casings to connect the firearms used in the shooting to specific victims and other crimes in the Kansas City area.
The shooting, which resulted in injuries to 22 people aged eight to 47, caused chaos and panic among the nearly one million attendees of the celebration. Tributes have poured in for Lopez-Galvan, with her family expressing their heartbreak and urging for prayers as they cope with their loss.
Local Democrat Manny Abarca, a friend of Lopez-Galvan, spoke about the impact of the violence, highlighting the need for vigilance at large events due to the prevalence of accessible weapons in states like Missouri.
The mayor's comments should be taken in the context of the prevailing zeitgeist that ignores the commonality of America's epidemic of gun violence. That is, people with low IQs and low impulse control are disproportionately responsible for violent crime.
