DailyKenn.com — Fifteen-year-old Valeria Rodriguez was fatally shot by a stray bullet that flew through her family's Round Lake Beach, IL home while she was having dinner with her sister.
Shorbonia Poole Jr., 19, was charged with one felony count of unlawful possession of a weapon by a felon on Saturday.
Detectives reviewed video surveillance from several cameras in the area of the shooting. This led them to execute a search warrant.
Investigators stated that Poole Jr. is a resident of the home where the search warrant was executed, and their investigation revealed that he was in possession of the firearm used in Rodriguez’s homicide.
Ironically, the Rodriguez slaying reminiscent of Emmett Till, who was killed in Mississippi in 1955. Both victims were 15. Although the suspects in Till's case were acquitted in court, his death continues to serve as a lasting example of white-on-black violence.
