DailyKenn.com — Dead: Rebecca Anne Roth; Arrested: James Quininchetta, 40
MORICHES, NY (June 2025) — A
Suffolk County community is in shock tonight after a 33-year-old woman
was shot and killed in what authorities describe as a senseless act of
violence—reportedly over a $1,500 debt.
Police say Rebecca Anne
Roth was found dead inside her white Hyundai Elantra on the morning of
Friday, June 6th. The car was parked and running outside the Tall Oaks
Luxury Apartments in Moriches. It was Roth’s mother who made the tragic
discovery after becoming concerned when she couldn’t reach her daughter.
Just
hours later, 40-year-old James Quininchetta of Ridge turned himself in
at the Seventh Precinct. Investigators say the two had a past
relationship, and the shooting was sparked by a financial dispute.
Prosecutors allege Quininchetta drove to Roth’s residence, waited in the
parking lot with a loaded handgun, and fatally shot her in the chest.
He’s
now charged with second-degree murder and criminal possession of a
weapon. Quininchetta pleaded not guilty and remains held without bail at
the Suffolk County Jail. He’s due back in court on June 12th.
District
Attorney Ray Tierney called it “a horrific act of gun violence.”
Meanwhile, Roth’s obituary states she was born on December 1st, 1991,
and passed away on June 6th. A private cremation was held at Fredrick J.
Chapey & Sons Funeral Home in West Islip.

Quininchetta reportedly waited in the lot armed with a handgun before shooting Roth once in the chest.
Quininchetta turned himself in later that day and was charged with second-degree murder and weapons possession. He has pleaded not guilty and is being held without bail.
