DailyKenn.com — A 45-year-old man was fatally shot by a stray bullet that pierced the wall of his home late Tuesday night, authorities said. The incident occurred Oklahoma City, Oklahoma where officers responded to a shooting call around 11:55 p.m.

Police identified the victim as Billy Sorrels, who was found dead in his bedroom from a gunshot wound. Initial reports suggested the possibility of a self-inflicted gunshot, but investigators later determined the bullet came from a neighboring apartment.

According to detectives, a woman in the adjacent unit, identified as 30-year-old Elisha Kirby, discharged a firearm during a heated dispute with another resident. The bullet passed through her apartment wall and struck Sorrels as he sat on his bed. A 12-year-old child, who was also in the room playing video games, was unharmed.

Kirby was arrested at the scene and booked into the Oklahoma County Jail. Authorities said she admitted to firing the weapon and claimed she aimed the gun into the air out of anger. She faces a charge of second-degree murder and is being held without bond.

Investigators noted that Kirby has a prior weapons-related arrest and described her as having “anger issues.” They are continuing to review surveillance footage, witness statements, and physical evidence as part of the ongoing investigation.

Sorrels' death marks the 28th homicide in Oklahoma City this year.
