DailyKenn.com — Carmen Suero Jr., a 70-year-old man from Drexel Hill, was shot and killed in West Philadelphia on the afternoon of Sunday, July 13, 2025. The incident occurred during what authorities believe was an attempted carjacking. Suero’s vehicle had reportedly been left idling when he was targeted. He was found with a gunshot wound to the back and later pronounced dead at a nearby hospital.

Police recovered a 9 mm shell casing at the scene. The following day, two 19-year-old suspects, Nasir Brogdon and Nysiir Peoples, were arrested in connection with the crime. Both face charges including murder, robbery, theft, and tampering with evidence. Brogdon is also facing additional firearms charges.

Suero was remembered by family and community members as a U.S. military veteran and a committed participant in Alcoholics Anonymous, where he had reportedly been sober for over two decades. He was known for his volunteer work and dedication to helping others. His church community recalled him as generous and selfless.

Authorities have not confirmed a motive beyond the suspected carjacking. A preliminary hearing for the suspects is scheduled for August 4. Investigators are continuing to gather evidence and have urged anyone with information to come forward.
