Prejudicing against individuals or groups based on immutable characteristics, such as race or gender, is both immoral and illogical. Similarly, denying empirical realities, such as inherent differences between races or sexes, is equally immoral and illogical, as it undermines honesty and rational discourse.
Some proponents of science claim it represents an unbiased truth, criticizing religious adherents for rejecting evidence to uphold selective beliefs. Paradoxically, these same advocates often mirror this behavior by endorsing questionable interpretations of climate change, supporting the concept of transgender identities, and asserting that race is merely a superficial “skin deep” trait.
Race denial can be harmful.
Amyloid angiopathy (CAA) is a pathology in which blood vessels in the brain slowly leak, potentially leading to dementia. According to Cleveland Clinic, “People who are white are more likely to have CAA than people in other ethnic groups.”
Those who deny the concept of race while working in healthcare might dispute the higher prevalence of cerebral amyloid angiopathy (CAA) in individuals of European descent. Would they not be genuine race deniers? If skin tone and CAA prevalence are associated with racial differences, what other variations might distinguish human populations?
Hypertension (high blood pressure) is more commonly found in black people. Denying this reality can lead to prejudice against blacks in healthcare. If skin tone and hypertension are indicative of race, what other variances make us different?
Could it be that, on average, certain racial groups possess genetic predispositions for traits such as innovation, athletic prowess, or mathematical ability? Are these differences as evident as physical traits like skin tone? If so, does denying such differences—potentially to align with ideological biases or prevailing moral sensitivities—constitute intellectual dishonesty or even pose risks in certain contexts?
