STILLWATER, Okla. — Vanessa Henry, a 38-year-old Stillwater resident, was fatally shot in a targeted attack at an apartment complex in the 200 block of West Elm Avenue on July 28, 2025, police said. The incident, which occurred around 1:14 a.m., also claimed the life of Andrew Rice, 35, and left Carman Murphy, 34, hospitalized with gunshot wounds. Murphy, who underwent surgery, was reported stable.

Authorities identified Theodore DeMarrio McCloud, 36, of Langston, as the suspect. McCloud fled the scene but was later located by Langston University Police at a residence in Langston. He fired at officers, prompting one to return fire, before being taken into custody. Stillwater police described the shooting as a rare and devastating event, emphasizing that it was not random and posed no ongoing threat to the community.

Henry’s family remembered her as outgoing and devoted to her loved ones, particularly her nieces and nephews. She was known for her willingness to help others. Court records indicate Henry had a prior relationship with McCloud, who has a criminal history dating back to 2009, including a prison term for robbery. Rice and Murphy, who were newlyweds, had married days before the shooting.Investigators are working with Murphy to determine a motive, though police have not released further details on the relationships between the victims and the suspect. The Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigation and Logan County Sheriff’s Office assisted in the case.
