Shelbyville Man, 58, Killed in Apparent Robbery; 3 Charged With Murder
SHELBYVILLE, Ky. (DailyKenn.com) — Timothy Lee Ethington, a 58-year-old longtime resident known for his generosity and infectious laugh, was found shot to death in his home in Shelbyville's Spring Oaks Estates neighborhood on Aug. 20, 2025, authorities said.
The Shelby County Sheriff's Office responded to a call about an unresponsive person around 5:10 p.m. that day and discovered Ethington inside the residence, where he lived alone. The coroner determined he had likely been killed the previous night, Aug. 19, from multiple gunshot wounds. There were no signs of forced entry, leading investigators to believe Ethington knew his assailants.
Ethington, born Nov. 13, 1966, in Louisville, was the son of Mary Faye Ethington and the late Donnie Lee Ethington. A member of Shelbyville First Baptist Church, he was remembered by neighbors and family as a community fixture and former car dealership owner who often helped those in need. "Tim's heart was so big, he would have given them anything they would have asked for," his cousin Jamie Ethington said.
On Sept. 8, 2025, authorities announced the arrests of three suspects in connection with the slaying: Jeremiah James, 23, of Louisville; Madison Greenwell, 21, of Shelbyville; and Rodney Isgrigg Jr., 21, of Jeffersonville, Indiana. James and Greenwell were apprehended in Mt. Juliet, Tennessee, inside a stolen vehicle and are awaiting extradition. Isgrigg was taken into custody in Louisville.
All three face murder charges, with investigators describing the incident as a robbery gone wrong. Greenwell, who had ties to Ethington through her mother, allegedly gained entry under false pretenses, exploiting his trusting nature. James and Greenwell also face separate burglary charges in Shelbyville.
Ethington's funeral was held Aug. 30, 2025, at Shelbyville First Baptist Church, with visitation beforehand. He is survived by his mother; brother-in-law Tripp Hardy; nieces and nephews Basil, Bennett, Tate, Ivy and Byron Hardy; and extended family. In lieu of flowers, the family requested donations to the Shelby County Humane Society.The arrests brought relief to a tight-knit neighborhood shaken by the violence. "Everybody knew Tim," said neighbor Timothy Young, who has lived in the area for 22 years. "His laugh was remarkable. Contagious. Best storyteller."Sheriff's officials said the case remains under investigation and urged anyone with information to come forward.
