FARMINGTON, N.M. (AP) — Jesse Dalton Hensley, a 19-year-old from Aztec, New Mexico, was one of two teenagers killed in a shooting early Sunday morning in Farmington, authorities said.

The incident unfolded around 1:54 a.m. near East Murray Drive and Camina Entrada, where a group of people had gathered. An altercation escalated when 15-year-old Lamar White of Farmington produced a firearm and shot Hensley, who was unarmed, according to police spokeswoman Shanice Gonzales. Another individual then shot White, resulting in his death. A third person sustained non-life-threatening injuries and was hospitalized.
The victims were pronounced dead at a hospital, Gonzales said. Preliminary investigation indicates the individuals involved knew one another and that the shooting does not appear to be a random act of violence. Police have identified a person of interest but have made no arrests. The investigation is ongoing, and detectives are urging anyone with information to contact the tipline at (505) 599-1068.
Hensley, born Oct. 14, 2005, to Billy and Rose Hensley, was remembered in his obituary as a curious and faith-filled young man who was baptized at age 8 alongside his brother and mother. He enjoyed the outdoors, catching critters and marveling at nature, and poured his passion into music. He cherished time with his father and brother hunting, fishing and riding dirt bikes, and often reminisced about family travels to Mexico. His family described his life as far too short but filled with love, faith and light that would endure.
