Matthew McDaniel was found suffering from gunshot wounds about 8 p.m. Saturday in the 2800 block of Geraldine Drive, according to police. He was rushed to the University of Cincinnati Medical Center, where he succumbed to his injuries two days later, the Hamilton County coroner's office confirmed.

Perez Crossty, 37, was taken into custody at the scene without incident.

Investigators believe the shooting stemmed from a long-simmering feud between McDaniel and Crossty, who lived just down the street. Witnesses reported the dispute escalated quickly Saturday evening, with gunfire erupting after an exchange of words.

A 911 caller, identified as a local resident, described hearing what she initially mistook for fireworks before discovering McDaniel lying in the street. "When we got up to check to see what happened, just in case, there was a guy laying out in the street. It became pretty obvious it was not fireworks," the caller told investigators.

Neighbors recounted a history of tension between the two men, including a recent confrontation involving children. One resident said McDaniel had tried to mediate after the neighbor's son was allegedly involved in an altercation with an 8-year-old boy in the area. "It seems like a little neighborhood fight just blew up really, really fast," the resident said.

No charges have been filed against the suspect as of Wednesday, and the investigation remains ongoing. Colerain Township police urged anyone with additional information to contact Sgt. Mike Stockmeier at 513-321-2677.

McDaniel, a longtime resident of the area, leaves behind family and friends who described him as a dedicated community member. A private memorial service is planned for later this week.
