A 21-year-old man from Alabaster, Alabama, died after being shot in Birmingham, and two black males now face capital murder charges in connection with his death. Authorities identified the victim as Jaxon Trew Bearden, who was taken to a hospital after the Oct. 24 shooting but could not be saved.

One Dead, Another Injured
Birmingham police responded at approximately 9:14 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 24, 2026, after receiving a gunfire alert and a report of a person who had been shot in the city's Ensley neighborhood.
Officers found Bearden suffering from an apparent gunshot wound. Birmingham Fire and Rescue personnel provided assistance before transporting him to UAB Hospital with life-threatening injuries. He was pronounced dead at 10:06 p.m., according to reports citing information from authorities.
A woman was also wounded in the same incident. She arrived at UAB Hospital in a private vehicle and received treatment for a gunshot wound that police described as non-life-threatening. Authorities have not publicly established all the circumstances surrounding her injury.
The Jefferson County Coroner's Office identified Bearden after his death. He was 21 and lived in Alabaster, a community south of Birmingham.
Two Face Capital Murder Charges
Police identified the accused men as Darius Ramone McConis, 18, of Birmingham, and Ja'Maries Antonio Robinson, 20, of Mobile.
Authorities said officers took the two men into custody within approximately 30 minutes of the shooting. On Monday, Oct. 26, police announced that both had been charged with capital murder in the commission of a robbery.
The charges represent a significant development in the investigation, identifying the two men prosecutors accuse of involvement in Bearden's death.
