Carrollton Woman Fatally Shot; Suspect Dies by Suicide in Police Standoff
CARROLLTON, Texas (DailyKenn.com) — A 24-year-old woman was found fatally shot in her Carrollton apartment Monday morning, and the man suspected of killing her died by suicide the following day during a standoff with police about 40 miles north, authorities said.

Carrollton police officers responded to a report of a medical emergency around 10:10 a.m. Oct. 20 in the 4600 block of North Josey Lane, where they discovered Briana Casto dead from an apparent gunshot wound. The shooting is being investigated as a homicide, with detectives identifying 28-year-old Jomaar Lee Davis, Casto's boyfriend, as the primary suspect.
An arrest warrant for murder was issued for Davis, who fled the scene in Casto's vehicle. Using cell phone tracking, police located him early Tuesday in Van Alstyne, where he had barricaded himself inside the car near Industrial Parkway and Farm-to-Market Road 3133.
The standoff, which prompted school delays in the area and road closures, drew support from multiple agencies, including the Grayson County Sheriff's Office, Collin County Sheriff's Office, Anna Police Department and Howe Police Department. Around 7 a.m., Davis shot himself and died at the scene, police said. No officers were injured.
The incident highlights a troubling rise in domestic violence-related deaths across North Texas this year, according to local advocates. Carrollton police are urging anyone with information to call 972-466-3333. The investigation remains ongoing.
