Toledo Woman Fatally Shot in Domestic Incident, Boyfriend Charged With Murder
TOLEDO, Ohio (DailyKenn.com) — A 36-year-old woman was fatally shot early Sunday in west Toledo, marking the city's 30th homicide of the year, authorities said.

Jacquelin Garza was found unresponsive inside a vehicle that had crashed in the 1700 block of Talbot Street just before 4 a.m. Oct. 19, suffering from at least one gunshot wound to the torso. She was rushed to a local hospital, where she was pronounced dead at 5:33 a.m., according to the Lucas County coroner's office. The manner of death was ruled a homicide.
Jeffrey Townsend, 35, Garza's boyfriend, was arrested later that day and charged with murder, felonious assault and weapons-related offenses. Court documents allege Townsend fired a handgun into Garza's vehicle, striking her at least once during what police described as a domestic dispute.
Townsend was indicted Oct. 21 on 13 counts, including aggravated murder and improperly discharging a firearm into a habitation. He remains in custody at the Lucas County jail without bond. Prosecutors have not yet released a motive, but investigators noted the couple had a romantic relationship.
Toledo police responded to the single-vehicle crash and immediately suspected foul play due to the gunshot wound. The incident prompted an outpouring of community grief, with local leaders calling for increased resources to address domestic violence.
Garza, a longtime Toledo resident, leaves behind family and friends who remembered her as a devoted partner and community member. No obituary details were immediately available.
The shooting is the latest in a string of violent incidents in the city, where homicides have ticked upward from 31 recorded through October last year.
