Lyft Driver Fatally Shot, Body Discovered in Louisiana Ditch; Suspects Linked to Killing Dead or in Custody
WESTLAKE, La. (DailyKenn.com) — A 62-year-old Lyft driver from Lake Charles was found dead in a roadside ditch Friday morning after being shot multiple times in the head, authorities said, in what investigators believe was a robbery that left her vehicle stolen and two suspects — brothers — one dead and the other facing murder charges.

Lawanna J. Lewis had begun her rideshare shift around 9:30 p.m. Thursday when she picked up two men, Calcasieu Parish Sheriff Gary "Stitch" Guillory said during a news conference Saturday. Authorities believe the men shot Lewis during the ride, dumped her body along the 200 block of Trousdale Road in Westlake and fled in her truck. It remains unclear if the ride was an official Lyft fare, according to Sheriff's Office spokesperson Kayla Vincent.
A delivery driver spotted Lewis' body around 11 a.m. Friday and alerted deputies, who confirmed she had suffered fatal gunshot wounds. Tips poured in quickly, allowing investigators to identify Lewis and trace her vehicle to a parking lot in Houston by Saturday afternoon.
The truck's recovery led to a dramatic confrontation Sunday in nearby Channelview, where Harris County deputies pursued the suspects. Tristan A. Bush, 26, of Lafayette, was arrested without incident and extradited to Louisiana, where he faces second-degree murder charges. His brother, Ethan Bush, 23, of Boyce, died at the scene after running into oncoming traffic while fleeing on foot.
Lyft issued a statement expressing devastation over Lewis' death, saying the company had reached out to her family to provide support and was cooperating fully with the investigation. A GoFundMe fundraiser has been established by loved ones to cover funeral expenses, describing Lewis as a beloved family member taken by "a senseless act of crime."
Guillory offered condolences to Lewis' relatives, calling the killing a tragic exploitation of someone "working to make money." The investigation continues, with authorities urging anyone with information to come forward.
