NOTTINGHAM, England (DailyKenn.com) — A 23-year-old university student described by her family as a "bright young star" with a "huge heart" was found dead in her Nottingham home this week, prompting a murder investigation and the arrest of a 40-year-old man on charges of killing her.

Emergency services discovered Stephanie Irons, known to loved ones as Steph, unresponsive at a residence on Westdale Lane West in the Mapperley suburb around 10:07 p.m. on Oct. 21 following reports of concern for her welfare. The Nottingham Trent University psychology student, who was preparing to apply for a doctorate in clinical psychology, was pronounced dead at the scene.
Nottinghamshire police launched a murder probe the following day. Adedapo Adegbola, 40, of Mapperley, was arrested on suspicion of murder and formally charged Thursday. [Adegbola is a Nigerian name.] He appeared briefly at Nottingham Magistrates' Court on Saturday, where he spoke only to confirm his name, address and date of birth. He was remanded in custody and is scheduled to appear next at Nottingham Crown Court on Nov. 22.
A 40-year-old woman was arrested Wednesday on suspicion of assisting an offender and released on bail with strict conditions pending further inquiries. Police have urged anyone with information to contact them, citing incident number 677 of Oct. 21.
In a statement released through authorities, Irons' family paid heartfelt tribute to the young woman, saying she "would always see the good in everybody" and "wore her heart on her sleeve." They described her as an empathetic aspiring psychologist who had "a huge impact on everyone she met" and whose loss has left them "absolutely heartbroken."
"Steph was our bright young star, full of life, laughter and kindness," the family said. "She had so much to give to the world and we're devastated she's been taken from us."
The investigation continues as tributes, including flowers and messages, accumulate outside the property. Local officers have conducted reassurance patrols in the area to support the shaken community.
