ATASCOSA, Texas (AP) — Seventeen-year-old Alianna Ujueta was shot in the head and run over by a fleeing pickup truck early on Sept. 28, 2025, after a house party in rural Atascosa County turned violent, authorities said, leaving her family shattered and the community on edge over escalating teen gatherings.

The incident unfolded around 2:30 a.m. on the 13000 block of Luckey Road, a quiet stretch near the intersection of Luckey and Jarratt roads, about 25 miles southwest of San Antonio. Deputies with the Bexar County Sheriff's Office responded to reports of gunfire following a fight that erupted among roughly two dozen teenagers at a gathering described by investigators as a "teen takeover" event — unsanctioned parties often advertised on social media that have plagued the area with rising violence.

According to the sheriff's office, the altercation began inside the home but spilled into the street, where multiple shots rang out. Ujueta, a high school senior from nearby Helotes known for her close-knit family bonds and love of animals, was struck once in the head as she attempted to flee the chaos. Witnesses described a harrowing scene: One partygoer recounted hearing "pop-pop-pop" echoes before spotting Ujueta motionless on the pavement. Another saw an armed figure near her body before suspects piled into a black pickup truck, which accelerated over her in their escape. Evidence at the scene included scattered shell casings, discarded clothing and jewelry, which investigators collected as they combed the area for clues.

Ujueta was pronounced dead at the scene, her body mangled by the vehicle's tires. She was just weeks shy of her 18th birthday and had dreams of pursuing veterinary studies after graduation.

On Nov. 13, 2025, the Bexar County Sheriff's Office named 18-year-old Deshawn Suggs as the primary suspect, issuing a murder warrant for the shooting. Authorities believe Suggs fired the fatal round during the street brawl and fled in the truck with accomplices. Suggs, described as 5-foot-10 with a slender build and distinctive tattoos on his arms, remains at large despite a multi-agency manhunt. No arrests have been made in connection with the vehicle strike, though detectives are pursuing leads on additional participants. The case has been bolstered by tips from party attendees, including photos and videos submitted anonymously.

Ujueta's family, grappling with profound loss, has made tearful public pleas for justice. "We're missing her. It's really hard," her older sister said in a statement, while her brother Kristopher urged witnesses to "have some courage — do the right thing." Father Ivan Ujueta, voice breaking during a news conference, implored the community: "I plead and I ask, help us get this boy." The family remembers Alianna not for her tragic end, but for her infectious laughter and devotion to loved ones. "She would want to be remembered by the love that she had for her family," her brother added.

The killing has ignited alarm in Atascosa and Bexar counties, where sheriff's officials warn of the dangers posed by teen takeovers — rowdy assemblies that draw hundreds and frequently devolve into fights or shootings. "These events are taking a toll on local families," Sheriff's Office spokesman Johnny Garcia said, noting Ujueta as the latest victim in a string of incidents. Community leaders have called for stricter social media monitoring and parental involvement, with a vigil held last month drawing dozens to Luckey Road in her honor. As the holiday season approaches, her loved ones hold onto hope for closure. "I just want to hug her again and call her a knucklehead," Kristopher said.
